A Masterclass for Aspiring Lawyers
PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
Law shapes almost every aspect of modern society - from how governments exercise power and how businesses operate to how disputes are resolved and individual rights are protected.
But what does it actually mean to study law? How do lawyers and judges approach difficult problems? How do legal systems differ across countries? And how do legal principles translate into real-world decisions?
The Global Law Masterclass offers an immersive introduction to the study and practice of law, exploring the core principles, institutions, and debates that underpin modern legal systems.
Led by lawyers with experience at Latham & Watkins, Cleary Gottlieb, the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, the London School of Economics, and leading barristers’ chambers, the programme introduces students to the way lawyers actually think.
Across the programme, students explore contract, tort, criminal, constitutional and public law, land, equity and trusts, human rights, and international law. Through the use of landmark cases, comparative examples, contemporary issues, debates, and practical legal problems, this highly interactive programme is designed to help students discover the discipline, develop sophisticated analytical skills, and understand whether law is right for them.
For students with a particular interest in corporate law and international legal practice, the Global Corporate Law Masterclass offers a specialist companion programme, exploring corporate law, transactions, and the role of commercial lawyers in greater depth. The two programmes are complementary and have deliberately distinct content, so students can enrol in either independently or take both.

COURSE DIRECTORS
Will Chen
Will graduated from the University of Oxford with a double First in Law. He qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales and trained and worked at Latham & Watkins in London and Singapore. He founded lawprof.co, the UK’s largest law notes platform, and MikeOSS, an open source AI legal platform.
Eponine Howarth
Eponine holds a First Class LLB from the London School of Economics and an LLM from the University of Cambridge, and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2022. She has worked in Competition Law at Cleary Gottlieb and has gained international legal experience with the United Nations and the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia.
Miriam Lo
Miriam is a First Class LLB and LLM graduate of the London School of Economics and is currently pursuing a career at the Bar. She has completed multiple mini-pupillages at leading London chambers and represented LSE in prestigious international mooting competitions, including the Philip C. Jessup Moot.

While the Global Law Masterclass provides a broad introduction to the principal areas of law, the Global Corporate Law Masterclass takes a deeper, more focused look at corporate law, international transactions, and the role of lawyers in complex commercial matters.
The programmes are designed to be taken independently or together, with no repetition of content.

A HIGHLY INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE
The Global Law Masterclass is deliberately designed around active participation rather than passive learning.
Students will analyse cases, deliver presentations, participate in Q&A, debate opposing arguments, work through practical legal problems, and take part in mooting and advocacy exercises.
Each week, students will be encouraged to complete a combination of reading, a film or documentary, and a short presentation, which will then form a basis for discussion, questioning, and debate at the beginning of the live session.
Towards the end of the programme, students will also prepare their CV and LinkedIn profile, receiving personalised feedback and guidance on building an academic and professional profile.
Throughout the programme, instructors will draw on their own experiences of legal practice, university study, and the wider profession, connecting the academic study of law with the way legal principles operate in the real world.
By the end of the Masterclass, students should have a much deeper understanding of law as an academic discipline, a clearer sense of the different areas of law they may wish to explore, and the analytical and communication skills to engage confidently with complex legal questions.
